We're currently recruiting volunteers to join our Independent Custody Visiting (ICV) scheme and Independent Custody Detention Scrutiny Panel (ICDSP), giving local residents a vital role in providing independent oversight of police custody.
Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) Independent Custody Visitors make unannounced visits to police custody suites to check on the welfare and treatment of detainees, providing independent oversight and helping to build public confidence in policing. Full training and support are provided, and travel expenses are reimbursed.
Independent Custody Detention Scrutiny Panel (ICDSP) The Independent Custody Detention Scrutiny Panel brings together local residents to review custody records, examine detention and custody processes, and help identify any disproportionality in the use of police powers. Panel members meet quarterly and make observations and recommendations that help improve transparency, accountability and public confidence. If you or a member of your family has had direct experience of custody and you would like to make a difference, please let us know.
